HAPPI Program

The HAPPI Program is a government program that grants money allowing you to purchase a home with funds up to 20% of the cost of the home. The funds can be used to pay for the down payment, closing costs, or to lessen the size of the loan. The size of the funds are capped at $10,000.

The HAPPI program can be used by those that meet the following qualifications:

  • Not owned a home in the last 3 years.
  • Have a credit score of at least 580
  • Completed an approved home buyer education class
  • Agree to purchase a home in one of 15 approved areas in Shreveport

An example of what the HAPPI funds could be used for is this situation: You see a $100,000 home that you'd like to purchase. Since it is a $100,000 home,  you'd be able to use $10,000 in government funds to purchase the home.

Therefore, you could put that $10,000 down as your down payment, and your loan would be $90,000. With a 3.75% interest rate, your monthly payments would be around $500.
